Should the ORP issue a statement regarding the indictments against Trump?
A message to all Oregon Republicans
The short answer is yes. The Oregon Republican Party (ORP) should issue a statement regarding the spurious indictments against Donald Trump. Not only should the statewide party issue a statement, but our elected officials and every county party should also issue statements.
It does not matter if you love Trump or hate Trump, it does not matter if you believe it will make your job as an elected official harder, what matters is that we all recognize that Trump is not a special case. He is simply a stand in for any one of us. What matters is that these indictments are clearly not brought forth in good faith, honestly, or with conviction.
If the people bringing forth these indictments (the Biden Administration and the Democrat Party) were honestly serious about the charges, they would have asked the judge to remand Trump into custody. If, as they claim, Trump is such a threat to the Republic of the United States and he has access to money and a fleet of private jets, what is to stop him from fleeing the country or initiating an insurrection (a real insurrection not the bogus one they claim happened)?
So why should the local and state parties issue statements opposing the indictments against Trump?
First, it would show that the Republican Party has the courage to stand against the evil and malicious weaponization of our legal system for political gains. This would help in the long run restore the people’s confidence in the rule of law. Our legal and judicial institutions have been corrupted so badly that it is obvious to anyone paying attention in the slightest that there is a multi-tiered system of justice.
In Portland you can be assaulted by Antifa multiple times, have it all captured on camera and take place in front of police outside of the police department building and the police will not intervene to help you. They may step in and arrest you, but they will do nothing to stop those committing the crimes. Then when you take the case to court the Antifa attorney will openly say to the jury, I will remember every one of your faces, clearly committing jury intimidation, by a lawyer representing a violent organization that has been named a domestic terrorist group.
Yet when that same group shows up at your house, a group you have seen setting police buildings on fire and assaulting people, the cops will come and arrest you simply because you are standing in your house holding a shotgun. Justice is no longer blind and the ORP and county parties need to stand up against this.
Secondly, it would show solidarity with other Republicans. It would say that even though we disagree on some things within the party we as a party do agree that using the legal system to jail and silence your political opponent is too far.
It is very clear that these charges will be very difficult to prove and that securing a conviction is a stretch goal. The process is the punishment. It will be repeated in the media over and over again and this fiction will be used as a justification by Democrat states to remove Trump from the ballot. It is also an attempt to mislead the public who will believe that the volume of allegations means that there must be some truth to it.
Thirdly it would show the grassroots and on the ground members of the party that the ORP has their back. A statement in my opinion is a low bar but it is a step in the right direction. We all, as a party, need to stand strong and when one of us is attacked and we need to defend them, not think about the personal political expediency of such a statement.
I would love for the ORP to use our political power to respond with charges of our own against these people but sadly we are not in that position. So, we cannot lead the way on legal action, but we can lead by being the first statewide party to stand up and oppose this clearly illegitimate use of political power. The reputation of our party is that all we do is write strongly worded letters, that we are simply Democrats going the speed limit.
We have a chance, right now, to take the first step in changing that perception. All we need to do is step forward and grasp the opportunity in front of us. There are no more names they can call us, there are no more allegations they can level against us that they have not already done, and they already intimidate, harass, and assault us. The only thing we have to lose is our debilitating comfort and our do-nothing reputation.
If the ORP or any county party or elected official reads this and is having a hard time drafting a statement, they are more them welcome to contact me and I will volunteer my drafted statement or to work and craft a powerful and effective statement. My email is cody.c.benson@gmail.com.
Also please take part in the poll below, I would love to know what you think about this.

This is a great idea. Douglas County has already taken some steps by addressing the corruption in our local News Review https://douglascounty.gop/news_review/ . Let's draft a resolution for adoption at each county level and also submit for the agenda for the Platform Convention Oct 19-21.
It will need to be sent to the Chairman by September 19.
